The Great Sculpture Controversy
Not every change to campus has been welcomed by students with open arms. In 1976 The installation of Henry Moore’s Three-Piece Reclining Figure, Draped in Killian Court and Louise Nevelson’s Transparent Horizon provoked a furious reaction that played out through both vandalism as well as scathing editorials in The Tech. Despite their initial unpopularity both sculptures remain on campus to this day, adding to the MIT campus’ reputation as an outdoor gallery of modernist sculpture.
