Pranab Baradhan
Professor Pranab Bardhan was the first South Asian faculty to join SHASS in the Department of Economics, an appointment he held from 1966-1969. His work on the political economy of development policies, rural institutions, and globalization has been foundational to the contemporary understandings of development economics and in his own words, “the realities of poverty.” He was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1982, and he is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
